Riding Instructor Preparation Program:

Foundations of Western Riding Instruction for Youth


Level 1


Target Age Group:

Ages 14–25

Prerequisites:

Minimum of 3 years Riding Experience

Program Duration:

3 weeks (1 hour and a half session per week)

Program Overview

The Riding Instructor Preparation Program offers aspiring instructors a hands-on opportunity to shadow an experienced Western riding trainer and learn what it takes to teach beginner-level riders safely and effectively. Participants will explore every aspect of lesson preparation and delivery; from horse care and barn safety to communication, lesson structure, and student engagement.

Through observation, guided practice, and reflection, participants will gain foundational teaching skills and confidence in the full scope of horsemanship and beginner instruction


Cost: $150/ person


Upcoming dates:

(January dates moved to February)


Level 1, Session 1, Wednesday, February 4th 4:15PM-6:00PM

Session 1 will include a check-in, outline of the class session, taking notes & making detailed observations while watching the instructor teach a riding lesson, followed up with a Q&A and a worksheet sent home to complete before the next session.

Level 1, Session 2, Wednesday, February 11th 4:15PM-6:00PM

Session 2 will include a check-in, reviewing the worksheet complete outside of class for discussion on teaching methods, outline of the class session, taking notes & making detailed observations while watching the instructor teach a riding lesson, followed up with a Q&A and a worksheet sent home to complete before the next session.

Level 1, Session 3, Wednesday, February 18th 4:15PM-6:00PM

Session 3 will include a check-in, reviewing the worksheet complete outside of class for discussion on teaching methods, outline of the class session, taking notes & making detailed observations while watching the instructor teach a riding lesson, followed up with a Q&A and a worksheet sent home to complete before the next session.


Students who fully complete the 3 Level 1 Sessions will be able to register for our Level 2 Sessions in February and allow for hands on practicing of instruction to prepare for their own teaching


These sessions will be held at M&D Arena, 6636 Old viking blvd, Nowthen MN.
